A 29-year-old East Los Angeles man was shot and killed after he disregarded a sheriff’s deputy’s order to freeze and then pointed a rifle at him. Joseph Murillo died in the back yard of a house at 3520 Fowler St., a sheriff’s spokesman said. The deputy, whose name was not immediately released, was making a patrol check on the house, an abandoned residence frequently used for drug activity. As he prepared to enter, the spokesman said, Murillo picked up a rifle and, ignoring the deputy’s order to halt, put it to his shoulder and pointed it at the deputy. The deputy fired one shot at Murillo, who was struck and fell down. Murillo then got up and, rifle in hand, charged the deputy, who fired twice more.
