Lashkari, owned by the Aga Khan, has been disqualified the purse money for the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Turf race because tests showed that the banned drug etorphine was in his system, John Van Lindt, chairman of the New York Racing and Wagering Board announced.
Lashkari, the English-bred winner of the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Turf race at Hollywood Park last year, finished fourth in this year’s event, worth $2 million, at Aqueduct. Also disqualified was Shernazar, who finished sixth, because he ran as an entry with Lashkari.
The disqualification cost Lashkari’s owner a $140,000 purse and Shernazar’s owner $20,000.
