Copter Fells Trees, Damages Car in Practice for Reagan Arrival
A military helicopter making a practice landing at a Burbank television studio that President Reagan will visit this weekend caused a tree to fall on a parked car, Burbank police said Friday.
The car, which was empty, suffered minor damage when wind generated by the blades of the chopper felled two 20-foot trees, one of which hit the car, police Sgt. Jeff Pratt said. He said the helicopter itself did not hit any trees.
The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. behind NBC Studios, where Reagan is expected to arrive Sunday for taping of the “All-Star Tribute to Dutch Reagan.”
Pratt said recent rains probably loosened the earth around the tree roots, causing the trees to topple in the wind. He said one of the trees had been held up by a stake.
The car’s owner was touring the studios when the incident occurred, police said.
