Tomas Perez of Santa Ana knocked out Ernie Rabotte of Long Beach in the fifth round of their scheduled 10-round junior-middleweight bout Friday night at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.

Perez, who had Rabotte in trouble every round, opened a cut over his opponent’s right eye in the fifth, and at the end of the round, Referee Robert Byrd decided the cut was too severe for the fight to continue.

Perez, who weighed 154 pounds, improved his record to 14-1 with six knockouts, while Rabotte, 155 1/2 pounds, fell to 15-9.
