Lukas’ Twilight Ridge Favored in Hollypark’s Starlet Stakes Today
No trainer has ever had the kind of year that Wayne Lukas is having in 1985, with his record totals in stakes wins and purse earnings, which now top $10.6 million.
But if the current trend of beaten favorites in Hollywood Park stakes continues today, Lukas may be in trouble. His Twilight Ridge, who moved to the head of the 2-year-old filly division when she won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last month, is expected to be the heavy favorite in the $675,850 Hollywood Starlet Stakes.
Twilight Ridge has earned more than $500,000, largely due to her Breeders’ Cup victory, and is a leading contender for an Eclipse Award.
Also expected to challenge in the mile race were I’m Splendid, a major stakes winner in the East, and multiple stakes winners Wee Lavaliere.
