Garden Grove : Tax Protester Creech Gets Six-Month Term

Share

Orange County tax protester Thomas Pat Creech was sentenced Monday to serve six months in federal prison for “forcibly rescuing” a Garden Grove building last June.

Creech, 43, of Garden Grove was convicted of breaking into the former headquarters of Your Heritage Protection Assn. after it was seized by the Internal Revenue Service for the organization’s failure to pay a tax lien. The group, which provided books, material and advice on how to avoid paying state and federal income tax, was once the largest tax-protest organization in the nation, according to IRS officials. Creech served as director of the group after the conviction of Armen Condo, the group’s founder, on mail fraud and tax violations in 1982.

“He kind of expected some time, but not that much,” said Creech’s wife, Genie. She said she would try to keep the association going while her husband is in prison.
