Los Angeles police Tuesday announced the arrest of one of two Grant High School students sought in the stabbing of two schoolmates across the street from the Van Nuys campus Monday morning.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Monday at his home in Central Los Angeles on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Lt. Bruce Meyer said. The youth was taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall, Meyer said.

Meyer would not discuss the evidence linking the youth to the stabbing, but police said earlier that the two students were recognized by others who witnessed the incident.

Police also are seeking a 17-year-old boy in connection with the 7:45 a.m. assaults in which two boys, 16 and 17 years old, were stabbed in the upper body and hospitalized in serious condition. They have not been identified.

Police believe the stabbings were related to a gang confrontation in Central Los Angeles, Lt. Al Durrer said.

School Principal Bob Collins said the victims and suspects all were bused to the school from Central Los Angeles.
