Georgia Southern Wins in Division I-AA, 44-42
Tracy Ham threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to tailback Frankie Johnson with 10 seconds remaining Saturday to lift Georgia Southern to a 44-42 victory over Furman for the NCAA Division I-AA football championship.
John Bagwell’s four-yard scoring sweep around the left side gave Furman a 42-38 lead with 1:32 left. But then Ham, who rallied the Eagles from a 28-6 deficit, directed his team on its 82-yard march to victory.
Ham threw all four of his touchdown passes in the second half. Overall, he completed 23 of 37 passes for 419 yards and also ran 19 times for 90 yards as the Eagles ended their season with a 13-2 record.
