About a half-dozen New Orleans Saints players consented to the blood and urinalysis portions of their postseason physicals Monday, but the remainder subjected themselves to $1,000 fines to stay in line with the stance of the NFL Players Assn.

The Saint players who broke with the union position were not identified, and the member of the organization who estimated the number asked not to be identified.

The players union interprets the agreement as saying the post-season physicals involve only those things related to football injuries and that mandatory drug testing raises the issue of personal privacy.

James Lofton, player representative for the Green Bay Packers, said members of the team would not take drug tests at their post-season physical examination.

Last week, some members of the St. Louis Cardinals were fined $1,000 each for refusing to take drug tests as part of their end-of-the-season physicals.
