Escondido police have arrested two Mexican men on suspicion of abducting a man in Los Angeles, robbing him at knifepoint, taking his car and driving him to Escondido, police reported Sunday.

Rodolfo O. Marquez and Jose Sanchez Cota, described by the police as undocumented workers, were arrested Saturday morning in Grape Day Park on suspicion of kidnaping, robbery and grand theft auto, a police dispatcher said.

The arrests were based on a report by Reymundo Cipriano Torrez, 34, of Sylmar, who told police that the two men robbed and abducted him outside a restaurant in Pacoima, then drove him in his car to Escondido.

In Escondido, the dispatcher said, the men stopped at a camp for documented workers at Quince Street and Valley Parkway. When an argument with a passer-by broke out, the dispatcher said, Torrez managed to escape in the car and call the police.

He later identified Marquez and Cota, the dispatcher said. The men were turned over to detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department, who drove them and Torrez back to Los Angeles.
