A Brussels court sentenced a British soccer hooligan to 40 months’ imprisonment for maiming an Italian with an iron bar in a riot before the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus of Italy last May in which 39 fans died.

James McGill, 21, of Liverpool, allegedly assaulted the Italian fan with an iron bar concealed in a British flag. McGill was drunk at the time of the arrest and it took four policemen to restrain him. The victim spent 50 days in a coma after the attack and is now partially paralyzed.
