An elderly man was killed Monday when the car he was driving collided with three automobiles on Western Avenue south of Katella Avenue in Stanton, injuring four people in the other cars, police said. The cause of the accident is unknown and under investigation, officers added.

Ralph McLane, 90, of Stanton, was pronounced dead at the scene after his northbound auto, traveling at a high speed, slammed into the rear of a car driven by Christian Emerson Hauter, 29, of Santa Ana, Sgt. Steven Kelch said. Hauter sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released, Kelch said.

McLane’s car continued northbound and rear-ended an auto driven by George Arthur Pellerin, 62, of Buena Park, police said. Pellerin sustained “moderate head injuries,” and his wife, Gwendolyn Delores Pellerin, 67, was treated for shock at Midwood Community Hospital, police said.
