Hammes Named to Superior Court

San Diego County Municipal Court Judge Laura Palmer Hammes has been appointed to the Superior Court by Gov. George Deukmejian.

Hammes, 39, whom Deukmejian appointed to the bench last year, will replace former Superior Court Judge William T. Low, who retired.

Hammes is a former prosecutor who specialized in child abuse and molestation. She was a deputy district attorney in San Diego County from 1972 to 1984. On a sabbatical in 1982, she served as a visiting fellow and assistant to the director for the University of San Diego Center for Criminal Policy and Management.

Hammes is a graduate of Pomona College and of Stanford University law school.

Superior Court judges earn $77,000 annually.

Court administrators were unavailable for comment regarding when Hammes would be sworn in and to which court branch she would be assigned.
