San Diego
City Atty. John Witt said Tuesday that his staff has found no improprieties during a recent review of $29,454 in special expenses reimbursed to City Council members and their staffs during the last fiscal year, which ended June 30.
The reimbursements were for items ranging from business meals to makeup for television appearances. Witt said the review did not include charges made to city credit cards, although he said it was prompted by investigations by the district attorney and grand jury into the $9,500 in credit card expenses amassed by Councilman Uvaldo Martinez and Rudy Murillo, his former top aide, whom Martinez asked to resign Monday. The grand jury will consider whether Martinez or Murillo should face criminal charges for improper use of public funds.
