Czech hockey star Miroslav Ihnacak has defected and signed a multiyear contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but a club spokesman said that the National Hockey League team has yet to get government permission to bring the player to Canada.

Team officials said that the 23-year-old forward, younger brother of Toronto center Peter Ihnacak, was in Vienna with his girlfriend and General Manager Gerry McNamara.

Maple Leaf publicist Bob Stellick said that he did not know details of the weekend defection of the younger Ihnacak--selected by Toronto in the 1982 NHL entry draft--and his girlfriend. But the Toronto Sun said that the player had driven from his home in Kosice, Czechoslovakia, to Vienna, where he contacted the team.
