Paramount : 2 File for School Board Race

Share

Two candidates have filed to run in the special election to fill the remaining term of a Paramount Unified School District trustee who died. The balloting will be held in conjunction with the next regular municipal election, on April 8.

James Paisley, widower of Sandra Paisley, 52, the trustee who died of cancer in September, has filed papers with the county registrar-recorder to run for the office.

Paisley, a building engineering inspector who lives in Paramount, led a drive that gathered enough signatures of registered voters to force a special election. Paisley began the drive after the school board appointed former board member Ethel Hillary to fill the unexpired term, which runs through 1987. Hillary retired from the school board in 1981 after serving 16 years.

Hillary could not take the seat, however, because the law permits a 30-day period for anyone opposed to the appointment to petition for a special election.

The other person who filed nomination papers is Alex Rivera, a school instructional aide from Bellflower.

The deadline for filing nomination papers is Jan. 10.
