Election to Replace Alatorre Set
Gov. George Deukmejian today set an April 8 primary and a June 3 runoff for Eastside voters to decide who will replace former Assemblyman Richard Alatorre, who last month was elected to the Los Angeles City Council.
Among those expected to run for the 55th Assembly district seat are Alatorre aide Richard Polanco and Los Angeles School Board Member Larry Gonzalez, both Democrats. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote in April, the top vote-getters from each contending party will face a runoff on June 3, a date the governor set to coincide with the state primary election.
