A 12-year-old passenger on a motorcycle was killed Saturday in a head-on collision on a blind curve east of Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim, Ralph Ting of San Diego, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:30 p.m. accident, which occurred on Proctor Valley Road about two miles west of Rancho Janal Drive. The motorcycle’s driver, William Sewall, 16, of San Diego, suffered severe head and abdominal injuries. He was undergoing surgery late Saturday at Mercy Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The CHP said Sewall was headed west on Proctor Valley Road--a narrow, two-lane street--at about 40 m.p.h. when he attempted to pass several cars on a blind curve. The motorcycle collided with an eastbound car driven by Richard Madsen of Bonita, police said.

Neither Madsen nor his two passengers were injured, the CHP said.

Sewall did not have a driver’s license, the CHP said.
