Dana Point : Public Meeting Set on Possible Incorporation

Share

Local residents are being encouraged by the Dana Point Civic Assn. to attend a public meeting Wednesday on possible incorporation of the beachside community.

The first phase of the association’s study of the feasiblity of incorporation has been completed, and the information gathered on public services, local government options, revenue sources and past incorporation attempts will be presented at the meeting, association president Jim Hyde said.

The economic feasibility of options such as forming a community services district instead of incorporating will be assessed in the next phase of the study, he said.

The study group was formed last spring after the county Board of Supervisors voted to cut funding for services to some unincorporated areas and asked for consideration of forms of local government.

Mission Viejo has already voted to form a community services district to take over several services previously provided by the county, and Laguna Niguel voters will probably be faced with the issue later this year.

A Capistrano Beach incorporation group is also studying local government alternatives.

The Dana Point meeting will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the community room of the Dana Point Harbor Aquatic Center, 34451 Ensenada Place.
