Death of Woman May Be Linked to Serial Killings
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating whether a 22-year-old woman whose body was found in an alley in Southwest Los Angeles might be the victim of a serial killer who has been murdering Los Angeles area prostitutes.
“There are some similarities in this case to the prostitute killings,” said sheriff’s spokesman Pete Fosselman of the death of Tammy Lynn Scretchings.
The string of 11 previous murders dates back to January, 1984.
Miss Scretchings’ body was found in an alley east of Halldale Avenue between 95th and 96th streets. Deputy Steve Lee said her occupation was unknown, and an autopsy will be required to determine the cause of death.
The Los Angeles Police Department has been investigating murders in which 11 women with records of prostitution were strangled or stabbed to death.
