Tennessee QB Tony Robinson Arrested

Quarterback Tony Robinson of the University of Tennessee, who started the Volunteers on their way to the Sugar Bowl before a knee injury ended his season, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover officer.

Robinson and former Volunteer fullback Kenneth (B.B.) Cooper were arrested at their off-campus apartment after undercover officers had bought just over an ounce of cocaine.

No other players on Tennessee’s 9-1-2 team, which won the 1985 Southeastern Conference championship and defeated Miami, 35-7, in the Sugar Bowl, were involved in the investigation, police said.

Robinson, a 6-3, 187-pound senior from Tallahassee, Fla., rewrote several Tennessee passing records during a season and a half as a starter. He set Tennessee’s single-game records for total offense and passing yardage against UCLA in 1985 and for most completions in a 43-30 loss to Florida in 1984.
