It’s the Only Malibu Slide She Wants

Charlot Evans of Malibu is looking for someone to replace the rollers on the sliding doors in her home ; the doors were made about 25 years ago by the Ador Co. and are 4 feet wide and 10 feet high. Can you help arrest that Malibu slide, or will Evans know that this is not an open-and-shut case?

Martha Griffin of Pasadena and Regina Poger of Cypress are wondering whether they can still find an old-fashioned top-stove baker. This is a device with a domed lid and with holes for the steam heat to come through the base; it is made of light metal and is used to bake potatoes, apples or a pudding. Can you help with this hot potato, or should our two readers give up on their half-baked idea?

Jim Foster of Laguna Hills has been wearing out his soles looking for mukluks , which are indoor house slippers with a leather sole and a knit top. Most salespeople don’t even know what he’s talking about and think he’s trying to slip one over on them. Can you help, or will Foster never be able to keep body and sole together?

The search of H. T. Salzberg of Port Hueneme, who was looking for an opener-cap for cans of evaporated milk, was capped when Sydney (Mrs. Harold) Malin, also of Port Hueneme, came to the rescue. We also heard from four other readers who have that type of cap, so if anyone else is interested, please send along a stamped, self-addressed envelope. In addition, Ruth Ungles of San Marino and Maxine Runyan of Upland suggest that the customer-service department of Pet Milk or another maker of canned milk might still have a few of these caps.

We may have to pour cold water on the hopes of Mary Lafferty of San Diego, who was looking for a traveling hot-water bag that is heated by a combination of chemicals and cold water. Jan St. Amant of West Hollywood and Shirley Corbin both told us that the item was made by Therma-Pak, 149 S. Broadway, Somerville, Mass. However, a preliminary check found the firm’s telephone number disconnected; perhaps a letter to that address might bring a warm response. On the other hand, we heard that some medical-supply houses, or even pharmacies, may carry an item that will heat water with chemicals.
