A61-year-old Simi Valley man, who police say was critically injured last week when his son hit him over the head with a blunt instrument, died Thursday, authorities reported.

Simi Valley police Lt. Bob Klamser said Arthur Norberg died at 3:40 p.m. in Simi Valley Adventist Hospital from head injuries received in the Jan. 2 beating at his home in the 1500 block of Olympic Street. Norberg never regained consciousness after the attack, Klamser said.

Norberg’s son, William, 22, was arrested after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder and has been held in the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He will be rearrested today on suspicion of murder, Klamser said.

Police said the father and son had been arguing before the elder Norberg was struck. Police would not say what the argument was about.
