Train Kills Man Lying on Tracks in Moorpark
An unidentified man was struck and killed by a freight train Wednesday night in a rural part of Moorpark, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
The victim, a Latino between 30 and 50 years old, was hit by a Southern Pacific train at 8:10 p.m. as he lay on the railroad tracks about a quarter-mile east of Moorpark Road, dispatcher Robin Estes said.
Estes said the engineer of the train, which was headed west at about 35 m.p.h., attempted to brake when he saw movement on the track but was unable to stop.
Ventura County coroner’s investigator Robert Boyd said the man was killed instantly. No identification was found on the body, he said.
