California Seat Belt Law
The California Highway Patrol expects an eventual 70% compliancy to the new seat belt law. I couldn’t resist comparing that percentage to the number of Californians who are nonsmokers, and wondering if this is the same group of people!
What about a similar law to protect people from themselves--and others--in their use of tobacco? I recommend a $25 fine for lighting up in a restaurant. The CHP’s figure of 700 lives saved from using seat belts would be far exceeded by the number of lives saved from laws regulating smoking in public.
