Shelda Arceneaux scored a career-high 25 points Friday night, but the San Diego State women’s basketball team played giveaway in the final moments to drop a 71-70 decision at Cal State Fullerton in Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play.

The Aztecs (0-1, 6-6) led 63-53 with seven minutes remaining but squandered the lead. The Titans (2-1, 3-9) were led by Wendy Anae, who scored 19 points, and Robin Holmes, who added 18.

“We made some erratic plays at the end and we didn’t protect the ball,” Aztec Coach Earnest Riggins said. “We seemed to forget what had gotten us that 10 point lead in the first place. We didn’t make that many turnovers, we just made them at the wrong times.”

After an Aztec turnover, Holmes scored on a jump shot with 16 seconds left to give Fullerton a 71-68 cushion. Jessica Haynes (16 points) scored a meaningless basket at the buzzer for the Aztecs.
