Another 60 park-and-ride spaces will be added within the next four months under a plan approved Tuesday by the City Council, city officials said. The council voted unanimously to spend $300,000 to acquire a 23,000-square-foot lot next to the San Bernardino Freeway at Santa Anita and Brockway avenues.
The city intends to use sales taxes earmarked for transportation projects under Proposition A to purchase the property from Del Development Co. of San Gabriel, according to Gary Byerly, the city’s transportation program specialist. Byerly estimated construction cost at $30,000 to $35,000 and said the project will take 90 to 120 days to complete.
The lot will be available free for use by bus riders and commuters who wish to car-pool, he said. The city expects final approval of its plan by the county Transportation Commission within 30 days, he said.
