West Hollywood : Closer Pet Pickup Planned

Share

West Hollywood pet owners may soon be able to trim 22 miles off their trips to retrieve animals picked up by county animal control officers.

Under a plan approved by the City Council last week, animals picked up by the county will be taken to a Los Angeles shelter operated by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at 5026 W. Jefferson Blvd., about three miles from the city.

West Hollywood pets are now delivered to a county shelter in Gardena, about 25 miles away. The new location will begin to receive West Hollywood animals in about a month if the plan is approved by the county Board of Supervisors, according to Peter Feenstra, West Hollywood’s contracts administrator. About 200 West Hollywood pets are impounded every year.
