UC Irvine Sweeps Fullerton in Women’s Tennis
Stephanie Rhorer, UC Irvine’s No. 1 womens’ tennis player, defeated Debbie Rush of Cal State Fullerton to lead the Anteaters to a 9-0 sweep Friday at UC Irvine in a nonconfernce match.
Rohrer, a junior, won, 6-0, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles’ team of sophomores Haruko Shigekawa and Dina Trenwith beat Rush and Jennifer Berns, 6-1, 6-2. Kathy Rose, a freshman and Irvine’s No. 2 player, defeated Angie Ruden 6-1, 6-4.
The No. 2 doubles team of Libby Despot and Rhorer beat Debra Reichman and Ruden, 6-1, 6-3. Irvine completed the sweep when Uma Rao, at No. 3, beat Reichaman, 6-2, 6-1. Shigekawa, the No. 4 singles player, beat Berns, 6-1, 7-5.
