Costa Mesa Center Under Way
Construction begins this week on the $34-million South Coast Executive Centre, a twin-tower office project that bolsters the claim of the South Coast Metro Center to be one of the leading business and retail areas of Orange County.
A development of QB Properties of Newport Beach, owned by Victor H. Boyd and David L. Quisling, in joint venture with Johnson Wax Development Corp., the 156,000-square-foot project is being built on the 4.2-acre site at 3100 Bristol St., Costa Mesa, just south of the Bristol on- and off-ramps of the San Diego (405) Freeway. Completion is scheduled for next January.
Designed by Gin Wong Associates, the project consists of two five-story towers joined by office bridges at the third and fourth levels to provide continuous space of more than 30,000 square feet for a major tenant on each of the two floors.
The steel-frame structures, clad in contrasting bands of polished granite and solar bronze glass, feature saw-tooth floor plans for the maximum number of corner offices and outdoor terraces for executive suites, according to project architect Bruce Bailey.
The buildings are set on a raised landscaped plaza featuring large specimen trees, fountains and flower beds. Parking for 500 cars will be provided in areas accessible to the plaza, including a three-level structure.
Security systems include car access to buildings, elevators and parking, TV camera surveillance activated by motion detectors and monitoring of all doors.
Charles Pankow Builders Inc., Altadena, is the general contractor. Consultant engineers include Brandow & Johnston Associates, structural; Southland Heating & Air Conditioning, mechanical, and Frederick Russell Brown & Associates, electrical. Fong & Associates is the landscape architect.
