Tito Horford, the controversial 7-foot basketball center who can’t find a school to play for, made an official recruiting visit to the University of Miami Saturday.

Horford says Miami, Baylor and Louisville are the three schools he is considering attending. Horford is barred by the NCAA from attending Houston because of recruiting violations.

He left Louisiana State in midsemester last fall and has been turned away by Kentucky and UCLA. Miami newspapers said Saturday that Miami Coach Bill Foster had been contacted “a couple of times in the past two or three days by a third party on behalf of Horford.”

Foster explained: “It was a situation where his people came to us. We didn’t go chasing after him. As few quality big men as there are in the country, I think you have to pursue every possibility. I don’t ever want to look back and think I should have done this or that. If he’s interested in us, we’re interested in him.

“I don’t know if he’s made mistakes, but if he has, who am I to say he doesn’t deserve a second chance? He needs a college right now, and we’re going to look into whether it can be worked out for him to come here.”
