The Hollywood Walk of Fame will be getting a face-lift if a fund-raising campaign is successful, officials said. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is marketing T-shirts, pins, coffee mugs and jackets to raise $300,000 to clean, repair and replace disfigured and cracked stars set into Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Chamber President Bill Welsh said the problem has existed for more than a decade. The walk is funded by an assessment district and receives about $40,000 annually, which officials said barely covers the cost of hosing down the sidewalks. There is no money left to scrape food, gum and other substances off the squares of terrazzo.
