Drug tests will be given to all front-office employees of the San Diego Padres today, a team spokesman said.
The testing, which previously was conducted on an optional basis, was ordered in a memo from Padres’ President Ballard Smith to about 60 front-office employees working full time or part time with a 40-hour work week.
Anyone tested positive for drugs will be referred to the club’s Employee Assistance Program, which is run in conjunction with Operation CORK--the anti-drug group founded by team owner Joan Kroc.
The testing involves no players or coaches.
