Manhattan Beach : Planner Awarded Plaque
Planning Commissioner Richard Ackerman, who has resigned effective Feb. 1, received a plaque of appreciation from the City Council this week for his 4 1/2 years of service.
Earlier this month, Councilman Jim Walker suggested that the council remove Ackerman from the commission for unspecified reasons, and in the intervening two weeks Ackerman submitted a letter of resignation, saying he had increased family and professional responsibilities.
Ackerman was originally appointed in August, 1981, to fill out an unexpired term and was reappointed to the unpaid position last year. His current term expires June 1, 1988, but because a city law limits time served on a commission to six years, he would have had to step down in August, 1987.
The City Council will appoint a new commissioner to serve out Ackerman’s term at its Feb. 4 meeting.
