Fountain Valley : Prayer Vigil to Honor Missing Servicemen
- Share via
A candlelight prayer vigil will be held Sunday to honor the 2,441 Americans believed to be prisoners of war or missing in Southeast Asia.
The ceremony will take place on the front lawn of City Hall near the “Freedom Tree” that was planted in 1973 and dedicated to all Vietnam prisoners of war and those who were declared missing in action.
The weekend also marks the 13th anniversary of the Paris Accords, which ended the United States’ involvement in Vietnam, and Sunday has been designated as a National Day of Prayer. An organizer of the event said that similar events will be held throughout the country.
A group from the Veterans of Foreign Wars is expected to participate in the ceremony. The event, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., is being co-sponsored by the city and various civic organizations.
