Openers in Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit
The 1986 American League season will open Monday, April 7, with three afternoon games--Cleveland at Baltimore, Boston at Detroit and Milwaukee at Chicago--the league has announced.
The Kansas City Royals, 1985 World Series champions, will begin their season Tuesday, April 8, meeting the Yankees at New York. In other Tuesday openers, California will be at Seattle, Minnesota at Oakland and Toronto at Texas.
The league schedule includes 771 night games, a decrease from 802 in 1985, and only four doubleheaders--including the AL’s only twilight-night doubleheader, at Texas. The other doubleheaders include two at Oakland and one at Detroit.
