Fullerton Wrestlers Take Second Place

Three Cal State Fullerton wrestlers won their weight classes to lead the Titans to a second-place finish in the 12-team All-California tournament Saturday at San Francisco State.

Cal State Bakersfield scored 104 points to win the title. Fullerton scored 64 1/2 and was followed by San Jose State (53), San Francisco State (45 3/4) and Stanford (38).

The Titans’ Frank Trujillo (24-3) defeated San Jose’s Arnold Khandavian, 3-0, to win the 118-pound title. In the 134-pound championship match, Dondi Teran (25-5) beat Bakersfield’s Robert Bailey, 14-5. Fullerton’s Bob Button (18-4) pinned Chico State’s Tim Rider at the 1:36 mark of the first period to win the heavyweight title.

In the 158-pound final, Titan Ardeshir Asgari (17-1) lost to Bakersfield’s Pat Houck, 5-2.
