Greece Beats Poland in European Cup Tennis

BERGEN, Norway — Greece beat Poland, 2-1, Sunday in the fourth division final of the BASF European Cup tennis tournament.
Greece earned promotion to the third division next year and captured the first prize of $2,000.
In preliminary group games, Greece won the blue group, which also included Bulgaria and Portugal. Poland, winner of a second prize of $1,750, topped a yellow group ahead of Norway and Cyprus.
In Sunday’s singles matches between Greece and Poland, Wojciech Jamroz of Poland beat John Rigas of Greece, 6-3, 6-2, and George Kalovelonis of Greece defeated Thomas Maliszewski of Poland, 6-3, 7-6. In the doubles, Kalovelonis and Rigas beat Maliszewski and Michal Lewandowski, 6-3, 6-3.
