About 25,000 south Orange County cable television viewers missed 47 minutes of Super Bowl coverage Sunday because of an equipment failure, Dimension Cable Service officials said Monday.

The areas affected were parts of Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, South Laguna and parts of unincorporated south county, according to Pat Lopker, Dimension general manager.

“We lost Channel 4 (carrying Super Bowl coverage) at 2 p.m., and had the system back up at 2:25 p.m.,” Lopker said. “We lost it again at 2:55 p.m., and resumed at 3:17 p.m.”

Lopker said a special work crew on duty repaired a piece of equipment that controls Channel 4 programming and restored the service.

“We received a lot of phone calls yesterday and a lot today,” Lopker said. “We realize it’s one of the most important days of the year, and that’s why we had extra technicians on duty. We kept (the interruptions) as short as we could.”

Not affected by the interruptions were some 37,000 other subscribers to Dimension, part of Times Mirror Cable Television, a subsidiary of Times Mirror Co., which publishes the Los Angeles Times.
