Associated Press

Patrick Flatley scored twice in New York’s five-goal first period Thursday night, and the Islanders went on to an 8-4 National Hockey League victory over Philadelphia, their fourth win in five games against the Flyers this season.

The Islanders, unbeaten in five games, bombarded Flyer goalie Darren Jensen with 20 shots in the opening period. Mikko Makela, Mike Bossy and Mark Hamway also scored to build a 5-0 lead.

Jensen faced a total of 37 shots.

The loss snapped a three-game unbeaten streak for the Flyers, who have the second-best record in the NHL.
