Santa Ana : Contingency Plan Set for Black History Parade

Share

Today’s Black History Parade will roll down Main Street rain or shine, but wet weather will cause a shift in the post-parade festivities, which include a speech by Yolanda King and a concert by the rock group War.

King, the oldest daughter of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. on the Centerpointe site at 4th and Ross streets, with War to follow. If it rains, the program will shift to the Police Department annex building, located northwest of Ross and Santa Ana Boulevard.

The National Weather Service predicted rain Friday night with a chance of thundershowers, giving way to partly cloudy skies Saturday morning. There is a 10% chance of rain Saturday.

The parade, featuring floats, equestrian acts, classic cars and marching bands, will begin at Main and 15th streets at 10 a.m. and move south to Santa Ana Boulevard, where it swings right to Ross. King will lead the parade, joined by celebrities including Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and TV star Anne-Marie Johnson.
