Police Arrest Gunman After Three-Hour Standoff
Police negotiated with a barricaded gunman for three hours Friday before sneaking into his apartment and arresting him.
Daniel William Fisher, 30, and his roommate had been arguing when Fisher began swinging a three-foot ax at the roommate, Corona Police Sgt. Roy VanderKallen said.
After the roommate wrested the ax away, Fisher went to another room and loaded a shotgun, the roommate told police. The roommate, whose name was not released, fled and called police, VanderKallen said.
Fisher ignored police commands to come out, VanderKallen said. After three hours, police set up a “distraction and we snuck up behind him,” VanderKallen said.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. Fisher was booked into the Corona City Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $10,000.
