City Won’t Prosecute CSUN Fraternity Members

Four members of a fraternity at California State University, Northridge, will not be prosecuted for allegedly burglarizing two sorority houses in what a school official called a “prank that got out of hand,” the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said Monday.

Instead, the four members of Lamba Chi Alpha will be “severely admonished” at an office hearing Monday, said Mike Qualls, spokesman for City Atty. James K. Hahn.

Authorities said the fraternity members entered the sorority houses at night and took trophies and plaques in hopes of using the loot to persuade the sorority women to have parties with them.

Frightened sorority members called police, who apprehended the young men near the sorority houses.

“We decided against prosecution because of an apparent lack of criminal intent,” Qualls said. “It seems this was no more than an ill-advised prank.”

The men were identified as Timothy Boyd, 21, Peter Sewall, 18, Kevin Tully, 23, and Robin Waner, 18, all of Los Angeles.

The 54-member fraternity has been suspended from taking part in school events until an investigation determines whether the students acted individually or with the fraternity’s knowledge, a university official said.
