SAN DIEGO — Relief pitcher Roy Lee Jackson agreed to a new one-year contract with the Padres just hours before a scheduled arbitration hearing Monday to decide Jackson’s salary for the 1986 season, a club spokesman said.
The arbitration hearing was canceled after the 31-year-old Jackson signed a contract worth an estimated $100,000. He reportedly had sought $150,000.
A Wednesday arbitration hearing is scheduled in Los Angeles for outfielder Kevin McReynolds and a Feb. 14 hearing in Chicago is scheduled for left-hander Mark Thurmond, club spokesman Mike Swanson said.
