Como Star Wins Inaugural Trot at Los Alamitos Race Course
Como Star breezed to a six-length victory Tuesday night in the $12,200 Inaugural Trot at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Driven by Ron Pierce, Como Star took advantage of Iltude’s bearing out down the backstretch to take command and draw away from his seven rivals over the final three-eighths of a mile.
Como Star began the summer-fall session at Los Alamitos with similar success, but his last several starts were less than impressive, leading the opening night crowd to make him just the fourth choice in the eight-horse field.
The even-money favorite, Noble Arnetta, broke early to lose all chance, and when leader Iltude began racing erratically down the backstretch, Pierce and Como Star were able to take full advantage. Final time for the mile was 2:02.
Como Star returned $12.40, $6.60 and $4. Supernal, which finished second, paid $14.20 and $6.20, while Martins Pride N paid $8.60.
The $3 exacta combination paid $285.90.
