TRW Inc. reported a net loss of $28.8 million for the fourth quarter of 1985, attributing the loss to the effects of a major restructuring of the company that resulted in plant closings and write-downs.
Company officials said that 1985 results should not be considered indicative of what could be expected in 1986. “With the expense of the restructuring behind us, we expect a strong performance in 1986,” said Ruben F. Metler, TRW chairman and chief executive.
In the fourth quarter of 1984, TRW reported net earings of $59.7 million.
The firm’s restructuring resulted in after-tax reserves and write-offs of $216 million for the year.
For all of 1985, TRW reported a net loss of $7.1 million, compared to a $266.8-million net profit in 1984.
TRW’s operating revenue in the fourth quarter totaled $1.48 million, up from $1.40 million in the same quarter in 1984.
Operating revenue for all of 1985 came to $5.9 million, up from $5.3 million in 1984.
