A 54-year-old Milpitas woman spent five days in her small apartment numbed from a bullet that lodged in her head when her boyfriend allegedly shot her and then turned the gun on himself, police said. Investigators said they do not know what prompted Valance Gill Jr., 42, to shoot Jacqueline Burgeles, 54, the woman with whom, his friends said, he happily shared his condominium for a year. “We’re investigating it as an attempted murder and suicide,” said Milpitas police spokeswoman Linda Miller. “But we don’t know what caused it.” Gill was the eldest son of San Leandro Mayor Valance (Val) Gill. Police Chief James Murray said Burgeles was found wandering in a daze near the apartment. He theorized that she may have jumped through a second-floor window of the apartment in search of help after being unconscious for several days.
