Topanga Resort Hearing Postponed

The Regional Planning Commission has postponed until March 27 a hearing on a proposed resort complex that would include a golf course, hotel, tennis club, more than 200 luxury homes and a heliport on 257 acres in Topanga Canyon.

The hearing had been set for March 3, but developer Christopher R. Wojciechowski of the United States Building Corp. did not meet a deadline for providing environmental information, said Don Culbertson, a planning department official.

The commission Wednesday decided Wojociechowski must submit the required documents by Feb. 19 and the material will be available for public inspection by Feb. 26, Culbertson said.

Canyon residents have been divided over the proposal. Some residents favor the complex because it will add recreational facilities to the community. Critics say the complex would transform their rustic canyon into the kind of upscale suburban setting they moved there to avoid.
