A jailed former Rajneesh sect leader accused of attempted murder was escorted from Portland, Ore., by sheriff’s deputies for a one-day trip to Oakland so she could visit a sister who is dying of cancer. Ma Diane Anand Puja, 38, a Filipino-born nurse practitioner, visited her sister, Anita Onang, 30, at an Oakland hospice. Puja was a confidante of Ma Anand Sheela, former personal secretary to Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Puja, Sheela and another former Rajneeshee, Ma Shanti Bhadra, were arrested in West Germany and extradited to Oregon to face charges of attempted murder, conspiracy and assault in an alleged attempt to poison Swami Devaraj, the guru’s personal physician.
