Pleasant Valley Schools to Close Early

In anticipation of another winter storm headed for the Southern California coast, the Pleasant Valley School District, which serves elementary and intermediate students in the Camarillo area, will send students home early today, it was announced Thursday.

Officials are concerned that heavy flooding could close some roads in the Oxnard plain and make it difficult to transport students, district spokeswoman Lynne Carey said. She said there were no fears that any of the district’s 13 schools would be flooded.

Students on Thursday were sent home with notes saying that classes for the district’s 5,400 students will be dismissed at 12:35 p.m. today.

Carey said it is the first time she can recall Pleasant Valley schools being closed in anticipation of a storm.
